Several band leaders attended Summer Music Camps (including Wildwood) before returning for our band preseason camp, (this year from Monday thru Saturday, August 15 - 20). Three summers ago, Courtney Buffington attended the UCLA Summer Music study as well as several other band leaders who attended camps throughout California and Illinois (Music for All Summer Symposium). Each year, Band Council does both the May Etiwanda Leadership Workshop and the August BHS Band Leadership Workshop. Six of our members won seats in the November 21 - 24, 2008 WIBC Honor Band/Clinic in Seattle, Washington: Jacob Dent, Keith DeRuiter, Alicia Freeman, Garrett McDonald, David Smith and Kayla Vaughn. In 2009, Jacob & Kayla plus Sarah Askew represented us in WIBC honor bands.
January 2009, 3 of our members performed with the honor band in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Also, January 2009, Sarah Askew, Alicia Freeman and Janelle Johnson played with the CSULA First Chair Honor Band.
Marching achievement includes the 2009 2nd place award at the Duarte Route 66
Parade, 2nd place band @Barstow's field tournament and 5th at the West High School Showcase in Bakersfield (4th place this season). In 2009 we did the UCLA High School Band Day @the Rose Bowl and hopefully we get to do that again. Our 2009 Spring
Concert featured special guests from Locke High School, Mr. Smith and his student Bryan, featured on KCET PBS television). Our big event for 2010 was the Hawaii trip. See the link to the right for more information about our trips.
When we're home, we love to play in our community (home football games & parades) as well as host the February 11, 2012 SCSBOA Solo/Ensemble Festival: download the
application here. The schedule of events for Feb. 11 is here.
We are indeed very fortunate to celebrate a lot of success!
